"HUF-FY" CAMPERS

HUF, the famed san francisco streetwear/skate brand, opened its 5th retail store today and with that, have joined the fast growing fairfax streetwear family at the heart of los angeles. Me and bro checked out the scene, which featured the "who's who" of the streetwear world - names such as the pac div crew (pacific division), ben hundreds, and mega of huf sf. Sorry i didn't took pictures at the party itself. Just a little shy i guess. The event was really cool and chill. The concept was "welcoming huf to los angeles" and what better way to do it than embrace the town's latino culture. Tacos, tamales, a mariachi band and luchador pinatas pretty much sums up the night's event.

SO YESTERDAY

The lakers "winning the west" is old news in town already. I mean, really old news. Even so, its just so cool to say that by winning the series, 4-1 against the spurs, I was one of the millions of witnesses who saw how kobe and the lakers turn around a franchise that was in deep limbo almost a year ago. Hard to imagine.

On the flip side of things, earlier tonight, the boston celtics defeated the detroit pistons, 89-81, to capture the eastern conference finals 4-2. They will be representing the east in this year's much hyped nba finals against the lakers. Game 1 is on june 5th, thursday, 5:30pm on abc 7. Y'all better stay tuned.

After the game, me and my friends decided to go to the movies and watch... what else? INDIANA JONES, of course! Took us a week to see it though, unlike a lot of people I know that's probably seen it 2 times at least. It was an ok movie, in my opinion, and a little over hyped. It was 2 hours long but the plot was a little corny, to say the least. Don't worry no spoilers here so all you late-goers can still watch it.

On the way out, we saw this promo gimick crap from the movie "don't mess with the zohan". I had to do it.

PEEK-A-BOO

Last night i got home from the angel game, tired and buzzed. Had just enough energy to put up my blog entry then went straight to bed.. not even knowing a little surprise was waiting for me. Today when i woke up, i was sooo stoked to see this in my room. I guess fresh threads just makes me all giddy. Never fails.

CLOUD NINE

What a day it was...

Big boys gotta eat right, right? So i decided to have some chicken and oysters for lunch from MOS 2 in anaheim (off the 5 on lincoln). My friend lulu had the same amount of food that i had.. she tore that thing up like katrina did down south. Now that's a girl that can eat.

Most of my friends know that i'm not really a "baseball guy". No offense but its just too boring and plain for me. Well, all that changed today. Me and my buddy rene got free tickets for tonight's angels game against the detroit tigers (thanks tanya). Got nothing better to do really so i decided to go. What the heck.

Sucky seats. Can't really complain tho. 'Coz (1) its free and, (2) its better than section V540. Haha.

Angel stadium. Believe it or not, first time i was here was'nt even a baseball game. Sad i know.

Most people were there to enjoy the game.. we were there to enjoy the food and the beer. Most people cheered for the angels to beat the tigers.. me and rene cheered on each other to finish each other's beers.

There was a section of kids, who annoyingly cheered for the angels. Too bad "their team" got owned by the tigers. That sucked. Oh.. and i guess they were all adopted too. Take that. Haha.

Mmmmmmmmmm... BBQ beef brisket sandwich.

The crowd right before the game. Everybody's pumped up and ready to get another 'W'...

... 6 tiger scores after, here we are. I guess those homers both sent the ball AND THE FANS to the parking lot. Sweet, we were stoked. And oh.. some old lady almost picked a fight with us 'coz I guess we rubbed it a little too much. Sorry, we don't do G.I.L.F.s. Well at least haven't yet.

It was my first baseball game EVER and surprisingly, it proved to be a really good experience. YOU MA' BOY, MAGGLIO ORDONEZ.

TOO CLOSE TO CALL

Whew. But nice try barry, nice try. Lakers won 93-91 earlier tonight to go up 3-1 against the spurs. Game 5 swings back here to los angeles on thursday at 6pm PT.

Here's another tough one... rose or beasley? Do you go with talent and leadership or with power and size?

That's been the debate for months now ever since both of these awesome college studs declared for the '08 draft. Here's a an idea on how the top 10 is shaping up, based on some mock drafts i've seen recently...

1. DERRICK ROSE. Bulls. He can fill the team's leadership void. Plus he's a hometown hero in chi-town.
2. MICHAEL BEASLEY. Heat. A no brainer pick 'coz he's the next best thing to rose.
3. OJ MAYO. Timberwolves. Team doesn't need another pg but he's just too good to pass up here.
4. JERRYD BAYLESS. Sonics. Seattle needs a scoring floor general that can compliment durant.
5. ANTHONY RANDOLPH. Grizzlies. Needs a big, athletic forward that can man the post.
6. DANILO GALLINARI. Knicks. A typical d'antoni player. That's all that matters.
7. ERIC GORDON. Clippers. An insurance policy in case livingston's return is no good and/or if magette leaves.
8. RUSSELL WESTBROOK. Bucks. Sure can help those good ol' bucks play D. A perfect fit here.
9. BROOK LOPEZ. Bobcats. Another good fit here. A legit big man that will enable okafor to slide down to 4.
10. DEANDRE JORDAN. Nets. K-mart's second coming? Looks like it.

FRESH TUNES

Everybody loves music. I love music. Especially new ones. I really don't have a preference to which type, kind or genre. I guess I just listen to 'em all. Except for country tho. Sorry cowboys and cowgirls, just can't stand it.

"We sing. We dance. We steal things." is Jason Mraz's newest album. He sort of reinvented himself here 'coz its not a typical jason mraz album. Of course, the single "I'm yours" headlines the whole album but tracks 3, 5 and 6 are also instant classics.

"Sleep Through The Static" is Jack Johnson's newest cd. I haven't really listened to the whole album itself tho. I will, eventually.

"27" is pretty much a compilation album of songs performed by various artists such as radiohead, kate nash and armor of sleep. The music somewhat resembles the songs used on pop shows like "the hills". Best thing about it is that i got for F-R-E-E.

Here's a playlist of newer tunes: mostly hip hop and r&b.

RANDOM ART

You can't go wrong with randomness. It always does the job if you can't think of anything else. Works perfect for blogging too. Especially today. I'm so blank right now.

Adam bomb sculpture. One of my brother's many art projects, which is also his own take on the the Hundreds' infamous adam bomb logo. Pretty cool huh? And we appreciated the no comment from you bobby.. you just went down a notch on my list. Just one tho.

My room. Used to be "boring brown" colored until i painted it "longhorn orange" on one side and white on the other ones. Actually not quite done on one more wall tho, 'coz Im'a lazy ass.

The Weber SUMMIT S-650 Grill. Retails for $1,999.00. We didn't got this 'coz its waaaay over our budget of 500. Dang it.

A mosaic mural inside the wamu anaheim-harbor branch. It is a Byzantine and Venetian glass mural, and i guess it illustrates important figures and episodes in Anaheim's past.

Some sports update: lakers lost to the spurs 103-84. Series is at 2-1, lakers still on top. Not cool manu, not cool at all.

SATURDAY OFF

One of the many things that suck about a bank job is that saturdays are always work days for us. Luckily, i got today off. Supposedly, the plan was to spend memorial day weekend in vegas with my friends BUT.. i had to bail out 'coz of several reasons, money being the main one. So here i am, stuck back home, bored to death as usual. I figured i needed to "spice up" my day so i decided to keep myself busy.

On days like this, I needed some comfort food. So i decided to grub out some CHIPOTLE with my good friend, faby. We had some tacos, a chicken burrito and some chips to go with it. We figured pairing these with some coronas would be a great idea BUT i forgot my id back at the truck and i didn't wanted to walk back and get it. So we just had coke instead. i know, what lazy ass right?

After lunch, fab was nice enough to go with me to do some shopping. I've been wanting those short-sleeved plaid woven shirts and i got some from urban outfitters at the lab in costa mesa. At check out, she got a dunny toy by kidrobot sold at the same store. One cool thing about those toys is that what you're getting is always a surprise. She got a blue "ugly" monster dunny and being a girl of course, she hated it. Luckily, i have one myself and i traded it to her. Nice.

... new dunny

... old dunny

Later that night, me and the boys went on a "short" hour drive to moreno valley for our friend, carla's birthday house party. It was typical "PINOY party": good music, tons of food and karaoke. After that, we went to west covina and chilled at anton's sister's place. We knew its gonna be a night of music 'coz JC (right), was there (anton' cousin can play the ukulele fo' sho). Good thing we came prepared and brought the must-haves: a ukulele, the cajon and the "egg thing". The crowd? Anton's family of course as always, they're the best, especially "tito". Here's one cover the we did. Enjoy.

THE RICH JUST GOT RICHER

One of the MANY benefits of having an iPhone is that you can check your emails pronto and surf the "real" web (yes blackberry users, rich text html web pages). Earlier today, i was stoked to see an email from the Hundreds folks about an online sale they're having for all their 2007 products. Being a sucker for this brand (i love you guys, fo' reel), i instantly read the email, excited like a kid opening gifts on a christmas morning, and was surprised to find out that everything is 30% off. I normally would buy anything they have for whatever price so this deal's a no brainer for me. Soon as i got home that day, i picked out some stuff and paid it with my credit card. Now all i gotta do is wait for less than a week and *bam!*.. a new woven shirt son! Can't wait.

Also that night, the lakers played the spurs for game 2 of the nba western finals. Lakers owned them of course, 101-71 to go 2-0 in this best of seven series. On top of the blowout win, laker swingman
Trevor Ariza was on the active list for the first time since breaking his right foot on january 20, and played the last 5:53 of the game. "Chi-ching"
... L.O. droppin it on big shot rob..

... another reason to smile for laker fans, T.A.'s back!

A CALIFORNIA THANG

There's no place like southern california. Aside from the beaches, girls and the rich culture, here are more reasons why so-cal is the "it" town..

Sick cribs. This is a nice, seven figure, 6 bedroom, crib in the heart of anaheim.

Sunshine state? Here's another wet afternoon, thanks to the always reliable and accurate weather reports from our very own local channels (kcal and abc you guys suck)

Sky rocket gas prices, as usual... probably 'coz most people think locals on this side of town are rich.. Sure. Try those bastards in area codes 92658 or 92651.

Fully equipped 2008 toyota tacoma: $32,000.00
Full tank gas bill: $72.30
Days to consume 18 gallons of overpriced gasoline: 10
Reaction everytime i see these digits: priceless

COMEBACK KINGS

Laker hype has been the biggest news in town for the last couple of weeks and everyone got their money's worth for tonight's game against the spurs. As usual, kobe starred in a classic hollywood drama. The final score? Lakers came from 20 points behind to beat the spurs, 89-85. Pretty sweet...

Manchester united were also big winners for the night, squeezing past chelsea 6-5 to win the championship. I'm not really a big fan of soccer but I thought it would be nice to share a winning moment with somebody else, right kobe?

JUST ANOTHER MANIC MONDAY

Today is... my FREE DAY! No work, no school, no plans whatsoever. I've never had a free day for a while a now and for my "busy" life, this is an absolute luxury. So what do you think Jesus would do??? WWJD

... watch cable tv and youtube all day?

... stupidly drive around town on a HOT day?

... go ball at riverdale park? (oh that's chris, the "new guy")

Speaking of youtube videos, i spent a good three hours watching (and remisncing) THE VISIONARIES, an old-skool cartoon about magical knights aired during the late '80s. Growing up, me and my brother watched tv A LOT but for some reason, this show seemed to be my personal fave. I don't really know how to upload videos here but here's the link on youtube. Enjoy.
